All Headlines > Ubuntu: Easy to Use Linux for Everyone, in Many Languages
Posted by TimSlavin at March 6, 2006
"Ubuntu includes more than 16,000 pieces of software, but the core desktop installation fits on a single CD. Ubuntu covers every standard desktop application from word processing and spreadsheet applications to internet access applications, web server software, email software, programming languages and tools and of course several games."
I found this site by accident, browsing book titles at O'Reilly publishing's website the other day. It's a project that provides easy to install Linux for free, in many languages. They carefully maintain their versions over time. They provide versions for schools, as well. It looks like a terrific way for the average person, organization, or school to try Linux, if not dump Windows completely, without losing access to key computing tools like word processing. At the moment, they'll even email you the install CD free.
The Ubuntu website has details.
