HTML Area (version 3.0 rc1) is a free, open source utility that you can use to turn any web page HTML text area box into a WYSIWYG editor like Word. Instead of teaching clients basic HTML to format content, they can use htmlArea to format text, even insert hyperlinks and images. Works with most/all web browsers.
This tool is a great way to make publishing tools like Moveable Type, WordPress, and Expression Engine easy for non-technical clients to maintain content.
There are dozens of these tools available. While I've lost my bookmark to the best page of links, Google and DMOZ have listings to dig through. One caveat: I'm still waiting for a tool that will pick up CSS styles used for the site.
