Last night reading the latest New Yorker, I came across this description in an article by Adam Gupnik about the French newspaper, Le Monde:
"The symbolic role of a newspaper or magazine is generally at least as important as its content, and often more evident. Scoops and masterpieces are few and far between, and what keeps a reader addicted to his paper is a continuity of tone."
Strikes me that this applies to any publication, including this one and weblogs in general. The tone can be conspiratorial (e.g. Fox News or Air America, which attract viewers who share a common political viewpoint) or professional or personal or whatever. Perhaps it is no surprise that human communications must have a human face in order to connect with other humans.
