"Barring any last-minute surprises, the Firefox Web browser on Tuesday will turn 1.0.
Although the release is technically a preview, the 1.0 version is a significant milestone for the free open-source browser software, which has already won an enthusiastic following as an alternative to Microsoft's Internet Explorer."
From CNET. This means that there is a free, fully standards-compliant alternative to Explorer with its security issues. The release includes a marketing website, SpreadFirefox, to help promote adoption of the browser. SpreadFirefox is effectively a companion site to Browse Happy, a site with the same goal to increase use of Explorer alternatives.
