Welcome back! Between work and the end of summer holiday here in the US (also known as Labor Day), I posted only four items this week.
I did spend several late nights hacking CSS again while creating a new design for this website. A year ago I spent almost 40 hours wasted time wrestling with CSS, specifically, trying to master how widths work properly across web browsers.
This time around, between Layout-o-matic (basic CSS layout code) and CSS Zen Garden (studying CSS layout code), I got quite far. I still believe CSS is not ready for prime time because it should be as easy to use as HTML but clearly fails that requirement. In the meantime, while CSS and browsers get their act together, technologies such as RSS and email are likely to render websites less important and possibly irrelevant.
In any event, as with posting for this website this week, work intervened and I ran out of time. While I am off to California this Wednesday (15-23), I expect to have a new site design up within the next week. It probably will look similar to the Atlantic Monthly design. Their design includes a number of elements I want to add over time.
The new site design will include a different approach to posting content. There will still be blog items but I also plan to provide links to resources I use to find content, more featured content, among other things. My goal is to provide a well rounded how-to and best practices experience for readers.
Thanks for reading and visiting!
Tim
