Dan Gillmor's eJournal has an exccelent dissection of a recent win by Microsoft over Linux as reported by Forbes magazine and others. The British city of Newham is reported to have commissioned a study that showed TCO (total cost of ownership) of Microsoft was less than Linux. Turns out Microsoft did the study and won the Newham contract by lowering its prices and tossing in freebies, in other words, basic monopoly behavior.
