One of the more interesting ongoing debates has to do with the viability of Linux over time. Clearly governments and businesses around the world have caught on that Linux costs less, is more secure, and performs better in many situations than Windows. And Microsoft has not helped by pursuing monopoly pricing, gouging some customers while giving away product to make other deals.
This week CNET ran a great article, Is Linux at Risk from a Microsoft Patent Blitz?, that links to articles that cover the whole range of issues around Linux, Microsoft, and the open source movement. It is a nicely balanced view, from all sides.
This week I also found a few more interesting items: Online Diary: A Last Look at Web Destinations (links to neat online destinations), 7 Steps to Optimize Your Email Welcome Message (great ideas on writing email copy), The Ultimate Email Glossary: 180 Common Terms Defined, Small Business - Why Women Rule (excellent numbers and article covering an ongoing trend). I also recommend Big Business Becoming Big Brother (scary stuff to frighten the children) and A Billion PC Users on the Way. The latter article is a good discussion of how increasing computer usage globally will require massive aid programs. Turns out adopting computer technology beyond a billion people will require raising living standards for the other five billion people on the planet. That's not a consequence that would have occured to me.
Finally this week my wife and I were lucky enough to be interviewed by Yvonne DiVita of Lip-Sticking, a weblog that covers women in business and marketing to women. The interview is called Smart Couples Online: #1. It even includes a rare picture of us that our little kids took in a rush one morning this week. While I don't think we said much of value (!), Yvonne's past interviews I find enlightening. She also posts lots of good research on her topic.
Thanks again for your visits and for reading today! Let me know if I can help you.
