Interception of Private E-Mail Raises Questions

Posted by TimSlavin at July 2, 2004

"In an online eavesdropping case with potentially profound implications, a federal appeals court ruled it was acceptable for a company that offered e-mail service to surreptitiously track its subscribers' messages."

From Yahoo! News. The New York Times (free registration required) has an excellent editorial on why this issue matters and why the judicial decision is tortured at best.

In plain English, a US court has decided your internet provider (say, AOL) can read your emails without penalty, oversight, or notification. Ponder that reality.
