Mozilla, Gnome mull united front against Longhorn

Posted by TimSlavin at April 30, 2004

"As Microsoft focuses on merging its Web browser and operating system software, open-source competitors are mulling a proposal to join forces and beat the software giant to the punch." Good background article from News.com.

However, I still think bundling an operating system and web browsers is a dumb idea. Anyone who uses Windows knows what happens when even the file explorer blows up: Windows freezes, the desktop icons disappear, and you wait stupidly for 1-3 minutes for the software to recycle, re-display the desktop icons, and then jumble your software icons at the bottom of your computer screen. Hopefully Gnome and Mozilla would eliminate that kind of silliness.
