The Washington Post has a simple but powerful gallery of U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq, some with short bios and letters home. I grew up watching the Vietnam War on the TV news as kid, watching both war footage and the daily screen crawl with the names of soldiers killed in action. This little website is the first web equivalent that I've seen to that sort of ephemeral memorial. With the web, however, anyone can visit any time to remember. It becomes more real, to me, at least.
