Welcome back. I wound up doing a few new things on the website this week. The biggest change this week was the addition of an RSS feed for the Resources page. Right now I have 180 plus resources listed. The new feed grabs the latest 20 entries. If you're interested the details are on the Resources page.
Why add a feed? I got an email this week from someone visiting the site who wanted to know where to find a form script. As you might know, forms can have security issues. I know one answer to their question (Willmaster CGI Software) but had never posted it. So I wrote back then updated my Resources list. Which got me thinking: why should someone interested when I change the Resources page have to come back? If they subscribe to a feed for the Resources page, problem solved.
BTW, I had not posted this resource because I code my own forms. I know other people don't feel that confident enough to code their own forms but often I don't put two and two together until someone points up their needs. Put another way: the customer is always right.
The most useful content this week was Complying With CAN-SPAM: A 10-Point Checklist for Marketers, a quick and practical guide to how to make your email newsletters and other business email conform to the new US laws.
I also liked Meet the inventor of CtrlAltDelete. I remember a world without personal computers. Ctrl Alt Delete, the @ symbol in email, and other bits of computer life were invented in the past few decades. Now Where Was I? New Ways to Revisit Web Sites is about another web detail not often reported: bookmarks and how people use them. I also recommend Can Harley Davidson's Secret Weapon Revitalise Your Marketing?, U.S. to Issue Cyber-Threat Warnings, and Is Outsourcing Really So Bad?. The latter article includes a link to an excellent report from the McKinsey Global Institute that describes a number of big positives from offshoring jobs, issues I've not seen reported in the media.
Next week I work in California, driving from San Diego to San Jose training sales staff for a client. I'm unsure how often I will post past Monday and whether or not I'll have internet access end of week to publish this email newsletter. I had hoped to have my Treo 600 by now but I'm still waiting...
Thanks for reading!
