Microsoft on Patenting XML Formats

Dan Gillmor has a very interesting post (with links) about recent Microsoft patents around XML and how they might (or might not) impact use of open source competitors to Microsoft Office. This is a behind the scenes issue that could have an impact on adoption of open source wordprocessing, presentation, and spreadsheet software.
