Companies tossing aside consumers freedoms

"In coming years, HP will be selling consumer electronics such as PC-based home media centers, music players, digital TVs and more. Fiorina [ed: their CEO] vowed that HP will use every method at its disposal to help copyright holders block unauthorized use of their content. If HP also restricts customers' ``fair use'' rights -- the ability to make personal copies and quote from others' works -- guess that's someone else's problem."

Dan Gillmor comments on the trends towards restrictive consumer electronics that appear to violate legal fair use freedoms. From the San Jose Mercury News. There are a few companies that ignore big media's attempt to limit or deny fair use but they're definitely not HP, Microsoft, or Intel.
