IBM memo advocates move to Linux on internal PCs

Posted by TimSlavin at January 9, 2004

"In an internal memo that reached the Internet, an IBM Corp. executive challenges company employees to abandon Microsoft operating systems by the end of next year." Based on the AP report, this appears to be an exploratory effort within IBM. If it evolves into a program, however, it will be interesting to see how Microsoft responds. According to a quote in the AP report, the key driver is IBM's interest in standards based software to help constrain its IT costs, a common and understandable motive.
