Mozilla Development Path Explained

Posted by TimSlavin at December 12, 2003

"High costs, security concerns, and the prospect of long delays in the next major release of operating systems gives us a window of opportunity to see the adoption of Mozilla grow over the next couple of years. We plan to fill all the gaps with our technology. That’s what is driving decisions about the suite, as well as the redesigned standalone apps which focus on simplicity, speed, and innovation of the UI."

Digital Web has an excellent interview with Chris Hoffman, Employee #1 of the Mozilla Foundation. If you don't know, the Foundation took over development of the old Netscape browser. It's now an open source effort with terrific standalone web browser (Firebird) and email client (Thunderbird), as well as the old browser suite (browser, email, IRC, etc.). Mozilla has become an excellent alternative for people who are sick of Outlook, browsers integrated with their operating system, pop-ups, and other horrors. This interview describes what will happen with Mozilla in 2004. The interview includes lots of links to additional information.
