Brazil: Microsoft, Go Home

Posted by TimSlavin at August 28, 2003

Brazil: Microsoft, Go Home: "Brazil believes that free software is an excellent tool for the democratization of knowledge, foreign currency savings, and the optimization of institutional investments and costs. The model also offers perspectives for Brazilian industries to research, create, and develop new free software programs." Article describes how the Brazilian government plans to use open source to achieve political goals (and save money). From Brazzil, a US monthly magazine that covers Brazil. Found through the news page at OpenOffice.org, a wonderful (mostly hidden) compendium of the latest articles about open source technology. OpenOffice, if you don't know, is a free, open source alternative to Microsoft Office that works on most platforms with Microsoft compatible data formats (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
