Responding to Another E-Mail Challenge: "Most spam-blocking systems operate under a presumption of innocence -- you're only blocked if your message comes from the wrong IP address or has the wrong characteristics. Challenge/response operates under the presumption of guilt. Your e-mail is blocked unless it meets certain criteria for making it into the inbox." Great background on yet another example of anti-spam hysteria: challenge/response systems that do little to stop spam, make alot of money for the latest anti-spam software solution, and only throw hurdles in the way of legitimate email newsletter publishers. In the U.S. at least I wonder if there are First Amendment legal issues. From ClickZ today.
