Since around 1997, when this site was aboutwebs.com, I have collected useful links to low-cost and no-cost internet marketing tools and best practice articles. While the name and domain changed in 2002 to the current site, both sites shared these goals:
- Help non-technical people figure out how to make the internet work to meet their business, group, and/or personal goals.
- Help break the boundaries in the internet business by, for example, exposing programmers to what information architects do and exposing business people to what programmers do.
- Present a holistic view of internet marketing, meld business, creative, and technical information to present an integrated view of how internet marketing works. Not just one piece of the puzzle.
- Collect links to low-cost tools and services that make internet marketing more efficient and effective.
- Write articles that collect important how-to information from many different (often hard to find) sources. Then base the article on my practical experience.
Low-cost, how-to internet marketing information can be hard to find on the internet. A holistic view of the internet is even more rare. Web sites almost always focus on verticals: there are sites for business people to learn about internet marketing, sites for web designers, sites for programmers, sites for information architects, and sites for usability experts. And sites that specialize even further, for example, sites that focus on search engine marketing.
While these specialized sites are important to visit often, there is a need for an integrated view of internet marketing. Programmers exposed to business and design articles are more likely to work better with their business and design colleagues. And business people run the risk of being ripped off if they hire a designer or programmer without first understanding the basic process these disciplines use to do their work.
This site also strives to be 100% trustworthy. If a product or service or link is recommended, it’s not because I’ve been paid. I don’t recommend things to clients without testing different options. The same rule applies to information on this site. You can trust that information on this site, to the best of my experience and knowledge, represents the best currently known approach to solve a problem. If I’m wrong, feel free to tell me.
If you find this site useful, I ask that you contribute back. Click the Share buttons at the bottom of each story if you have accounts at Stumble Upon, Twitter, Facebook, or other social site. Post a comment to share your best link or experience with the topic, if you can, or to ask a question. Or click through the ads if you see one that is of interest. Or donate: it takes a couple days a week to keep this site current. While I do the work mostly as a public service, money helps keep the cat fed, clothes on our kids back, and all that good stuff.
But most of all, thank you for your visit today. Let me know how I can help you find low-cost and no-cost internet marketing know-how. Just find the Masthead box on the right side of every page then click the Email me link.
