Is Craigslist a Google 2.0?

“But [Craigslist] has something in common with successful Web businesses like Amazon (AMZN), eBay (EBAY), Google, and Yahoo (YHOO): a fanatical user base. Craigslist is incredibly popular. In July the site crossed the 1 billion monthly pageviews mark for the first time — doubling its year-ago traffic level, according to CEO Jim Buckmaster.”

From Business 2.0. The financials are amazing for Craigslist. But what amazes me even more is that no one has ripped off their business model for local and regional websites. Craigslist means a lot in the Bay Area and big cities where Bay Area people may have moved. But it means little or nothing in the other 99% of the US, or globally. Yet their business model is very clean, very user-friendly, and apparently very profitable. Certainly their software is brain dead easy to replicate.
